Silva have chosen hardwood as the material of choice for two simple reasons:
1. The natural shock absorption properties of hardwood provide an outstandingly smooth ride.
2. the grain provides the unique natural beauty.
Often described as “nature’s carbon fibre”, hardwood is strong and beautiful.
Wood has been used to build all sorts of products… aeroplanes, car chassis, sports equipment, ocean going yachts…. and is now showing a resurgence within the construction industry and is increasingly used in place of steel beams.
Timber is strong and stiff but has the additional benefit of being elastic. Functionally, wood has the characteristics that mean it is entirely suitable and lends itself to being used for cycle manufacture.
Frames are built using a lamination of carefully selected hardwoods bonded with environmentally sensitive epoxy resin. Hardwoods are sustainably resourced through FSC suppliers
Over doubled the required international testing standards.
Hollow frames are comparable to alloy or aluminium.
Naturally absorbing the road vibration for an extra smooth ride.
With up to 6 coats of marine grade polyurethane.
Beautiful materials from sustainable sources.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests. Since its foundation in 1994, FSC has grown to become the world's most respected and widespread forest certification system.
